been a time.
Jul. 22nd, 2012 08:52 amWork was kind of stressful the last two days. I'm of the belief that if Dave would just let me sit at the computer instead of suggesting things I do, I would get everything DONE. But instead our turn around time on some things is like 3 or 4 days and our to do box looks like crazy town. I fixed most of it friday, was there nearly three hours past when I was suppose to leave, and then tried to leave early saturday. Little peeved that its okay for dave to leave but the time I want to leave early I should go and take a walk of the whole store. I had to pull a trump card on that one. Sure I'll walk the store, if you want me to have tons of over time. The answer was an "oh no, yeah go home". Yeaaah thought so.
I am so willing to stay forever and get every single thing done. I love having things completed before I leave. Provided I get nap and snack times I could probably be there for three days straight before I wanted to go home.
ANYHOW! I did get to leave early and met up with a friend and another of her friends for lunch. Late lunch. We hit up Chicago Diner. It is fairly tiny but also amazing. I have a 20 dollar gift card that I won at work in a pick a ducky style game. Only it was cupcakes (that I could eat!) so I consider that two prizes. Then, because the diner is in boystown* we went into Beatnix? I don't know but if anyone ever needs a pair of size 15+ PINK heels, they've got it. I think the only surprising part was the shoes. I've been on the internet too long.
Grocery shopping happened at what is suppose to be major competition for us...and I really don't think that it will be. It was like a regular grocery, but just way fancier. I had a few qualms with how they did some things, from a food allergy standpoint. But I got 99 cent mexican coke. assuming people don't drink it all I have some for a while.
After we dropped the friend off so she could get to work we hit up the Butcher & Larder. They are a whole animal butcher, so they have cuts of meat most people don't carry because they sell everything off a whole animal. So basically cuts of meat your grandparents knew about. We had called ahead to see if they had lard. You can apparently use it in baking like shortening, and it is what shortening is trying desperately to mimic. The cookies came out AWESOME! You can sort of smell the lard when you try the dough, but once they're baked even my friend couldn't taste it. She can usually tell you every single spice in whatever she is eating, as well as how old the food is, and she said she couldn't taste it. WIN!
youtube video of the shop and owner. He was actually the guy that took care of us last night. They all seemed a little blah, but we had come in at nearly closing, and I know how that feels so totally forgiven. Especially if it was a trying day.
I think I like the concept of being an occasional meat eater, but getting superior stuff when I do. I might see how much their chicken is and insist Ellen make chicken.
now is COOOKIE TIME!
*My dad didn't know what boystown was. I explained it as the gayest place in chicago, ever. Which is fairly accurate. My friend said its where the gays go to thrive.
