I had a friend come over, and thankfully she called first cause I was totally in my bathrobe knitting and watching about midieval lives and how everything we think about them is essentially wrong. I'm sure not everything in the video is completely 100% correct, but it certainly is much more accurate than thinking knights were actually saving damsels all the time.

The visit prompted me to clean up so someone could actually walk in my room. It did lead to me dumping clean laundry all over the bed and putting dirty stuff in the basket. Now I have to put it away or sleep on it.

The best part of all is that I got to use my vast array of mini spoons, tea cups and tiny teabag holding plates to serve someone else other than myself tea! It was fairly awesome.

Then we basically went all over the damn place. I've been at the library twice today, the goodwill to get rid of the night stand that has been sitting in the back of my car for over two weeks, and out of H Mart...which is apparently a korean grocery way out in the suburbs. West not north like Mitsuwa, which is a japanese grocery way out in the suburbs. Hobby Lobby was closed due to a power outage, and we sat around at a coffee shop waiting to pick up my sister from the train because her car is currently got all its dash board spread all over the front seats. Heating coil issues or something.

Then we went to this place called Standard Market. It is apparently a competitor to where I work, but I don't really think so. First of all they don't accept cash. You can go to the front desk and use cash to buy a gift card if you absolutely must, but otherwise no cash. Secondly they just carry all the high end stuff. Its just like a glamorous jewel minus the big dry grocery section and convenience foods in the middle. Instead there is a restaurant, where you can get 11$ sandwiches and stuff. I wandered around making "really?" remarks at things. They have coca cola, and red bull, something we aren't allowed to carry at our store.

They do actually make their baked items there instead of having a commissary do it. We bake lots of things our self, but much of it also arrives frozen. Pies come in frozen and we bake them and then sell them. They were actually making pie crusts and assembling pies there. So that was pretty cool to see. But I really wouldn't consider it competition.

It reminded me of how yarn crafts have gotten really popular. I am a fan, but I am always a bit sad when I go into yarn stores and see only high end yarn. I want to lust after those yarns, but I would also like to patronize the store, but its rather hard to do when everything is well over 10$. I kind of want to run a yarn shop that has fancy yarn, but also has cheaper yarns. It feels intimidating when everything is so far out of your range and then once you do buy it better do something awesome with it! I don't usually have this issue, I'm very willing to fuck something up, but I know that for many other people this is a major barrier when it comes to trying to do anything really.

With people talking under me in the garage, it sounds like my sister's dash and steering wheel are strewn about in the garage and not even in her car anymore.

Aww I want to hug this place. It feels like old awesome LJ
